Welcome to the Rise Life Strategies blog! I'm thrilled to have this space to connect with you. My intention is to share thoughts, ideas, tips and guidance on getting you to a place of living a life that is more fulfilling, more inspiring, more YOU.
To kick off the blog, I'm going to get right in there and define what life coaching is. Maybe you've heard of life coaching, maybe not. Maybe you're wondering what the difference is between life coaching and therapy, or counseling. So let's get to it.
So, what is life coaching?
Life coaching is a powerful pathway that can lead you to radical personal growth. I strongly believe that life coaching is a process that is best embarked upon when initiated by the individual who is looking to make changes in his or her life. Why do I say that? It's because life coaching can take some time, energy and focus to be life-changing and truly effective. I think that's best done when a person is truly ready to move forward and realize some changes in his or her current situation. Another way to say it: You need to want this for yourself.
When you decide to enlist a life coach, you enter into a process that is thought-provoking, creative and that is meant to inspire you to rise up to your highest potential. Life coaching assists you to identify what it is that you truly want, and lead you to uncover why you're not getting to where you want to be. This is done through a powerful exploration that can uncover a number of key factors, such as:
Is life coaching the same as therapy or counseling?
Life coaching is not the same as therapy or counseling. During therapy or counseling work, a client and therapist or counselor focus more on healing deep emotional pain, dysfunction, and conflict with one individual, or in a relationship between two or more individuals. The focus of therapy or counseling often resides in resolving difficulties from the past, which can affect an individual’s emotional state in the present. Therapists and counselors can assist clients in identifying problems and finding possible solutions to issues that cause the client emotional turmoil.
Is life coaching the same as mentoring?
Life coaching is not the same as mentoring. Though the two can be closely related, a mentor is typically someone who shows his or her mentee how he or she accomplished something. Mentoring focuses more on teaching and giving advice from one’s own experience, or sharing successful philosophies pertaining to a specific industry or career path. Life coaching is not about the coach telling the coachee what to do, or giving advice. The focus of coaching is more rooted in guiding the coachee into a space where the coachee can generate their own strategies and solutions to reach their goals.
If you have areas in your life that you're dissatisfied with, if you have goals that you just aren't reaching, if life is feeling a little dull and uninspired, and you suspect there can be much more, then it might be an ideal time for you to partner with a life coach.
